In 1999 I started out in this business as sales support, coordinator for service & warranty as well as Andersen Window direct van orders.  I didn’t even know what a sash was, let alone how many other parts made up a window.  It was an interesting learning experience to say the least, considering my background was in the food service industry.  With the help of a few key people, I quickly learned what I needed to become successful.  I took every opportunity to listen and learn as much as possible from the sales staff, and eventually moved into sales about 4 years ago.

In the midst of learning about windows and doors, I also decided it was time to further my education, hopefully open a few more doors for myself and teach my kids that you’re never too old to go back to school.  I graduated from Davenport University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  I love being able to not only help our sales staff and customers, but keep our showroom running smoothly.

I’ve been married to my husband Albert for 21 years.  We have three wonderful children and when we are not playing taxi cab for them, we love spending time biking and traveling as often as possible to car shows.

Jon Basile is an artist, designer, builder, and Michigan native.  He left town to pursue an education in industrial design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY and eventually found his way to the Pacific Northwest looking for big mountains, slopes to ski and rocks to climb. For 10 years he owned/operated Basile’s Workshop in McMinnville, Oregon, specializing in wood windows, doors and custom design and fabrication.

Jon returned to Michigan in January 2022 and started with Thomas and Milliken in the Northport workshop. In November,  he joined the team in Petoskey to help with the ever-increasing demand. He now lives on a farm with his wife, two Great Pyrenees dogs, two cats and seven sheep. Email Jon@tmmillwork.com

Erik Thomas

Erik Thomas

I started working with the Thomas & Milliken Traverse City sales team in January 2016.  I have been involved in construction all my professional career.  Prior employment experiences include: installing windows in Chicago high rises (2000-2001), new build and remodeling Traverse City area residential homes (2001-2012), & was on the installation crew for Grand Traverse Refrigeration (2012-2016). Taking off the tool belt and working in the office was a big transition.  Understanding multiple trades and the timelines of a jobsite has helped me connect with other builders & homeowners to understand what needs they have.

My wife and I have been married for 11 years and are blessed with two daughters.  We spend a lot of time outdoors throughout the wonderful seasons Northern Michigan offers.  Hiking, fishing, camping, running, mountain biking, basketball, tennis, skiing/snowboarding, & hanging out at the beach are a short list of what we enjoy.                      email: erik@tmmillwork.com

SARAH RUTKOWSKI

I began my career in customer service at the age of 17 working in hospitality at two of TC’s premier beach front resorts where I moved into management and spent 13 years taking care of customers.

When I left hospitality I found my way to a custom / spec home builder in Northern Michigan where I learned my way around a blue print, among other things that have helped me be successful working for Thomas & Milliken Millwork, inc.

In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my son, hiking/swimming, enjoying all of our beautiful Northern Michigan lakes and paddling our many rivers. sarah@tmmillwork.com

My career background started in retail but found being a teacher & daycare assistant was where I needed to be. After many years, I decided to try a new career and change of pace. I have been with Thomas & Milliken since 2021. Here I have learned to read a blueprint and the whole quoting process. Among helping with quoting, I answer our phones and help take care of all our customers.

My family and I spend a lot of time outside during the spring, summer, and fall months enjoying everything that beautiful Northern Michigan has to offer. A few things include dirt bike riding, days on the lake, and spending time with friends & family. During the winter season, we spend our time watching movies or reading while enjoying the beauty mother nature has to offer from inside. Email Amanda@tmmillwork.com

ANDY THOMAS

Andy Thomas started Thomas and Milliken Millwork back in 1977 with his wife Gloria.  Since then they have seen the business develop and evolve into the number one millshop in Northern Michigan.  Andy comes from a long line of workworkers dating back to his great-grandfather who built many of the homes in Northport.  "Woodworking is in my blood.  I started out of college making autoharps in my parents basement.  That quickly morphed into patenting a line of wood outdoor furniture.  From there it's history.  We now sell our products around to U.S. and currently are working with the Hotel Kimpton project on Grand Cayman island. We are fortunate in that we have great employees who work hard and with great attention to detail."  The road up to Northport, M22, has just been voted the most scenic fall color tour route in the country.  So make the beautiful drive up to Northport and meet Andy or email him andy@tmmillwork.com.

I've been with Thomas & Milliken for over 15 years.  As office manager I wear many hats, which can make my job both interesting and challenging.

I came to Thomas & Milliken after working 12 years with another county manufacturing company that relocated to north Carolina.

I am very happy that I joined the Thomas and Milliken family.

I have been married to Al for over 35 years and we reside in Lake Leelanau where we raised our three daughters. We enjoy camping and traveling to South Dokta to visit our one daughter and husband.  You can contact kathy at kathy@tmmillwork.com.
